Stimuli-responsive core-shell hairy particles have been synthesized and used for the assembly of anisotropic nanostructured materials and coatings. The particles with double response that combines a response to external magnetic field and stimuli-triggered phase transition in the hairy shell offer new opportunities for field directed assembly of different functional scaffolds. An external magnetic field is used for positioning and alignment of particles while hairy structures provide powerful means to regulate and switch particle-particle interactions. In this work we demonstrate several concepts for self-assembly of hairy particles in magnetic field.
