Serious recovery problems of acetamipirid, chlorpyrifos and bifenthrin caused by lipid content presented in Peanut, brown rice and oriental melon were found through analysis of the residual pesticides using an analytical method established by Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). The recovery tests of spiked pesticides with the method of KFDA showed poor recovery rates, especially bifenthrin in peanut. It might be caused by an interaction between low polarity of the residual pesticide and high lipid content in the agricultural commodity sample. Additionally, an unclear separation of layer during the liquid-liquid partitioning process was occurred. Some modification on the KFDA method were needed as the replacement of acetone and liquid-liquid partition to acetonitrile and a macroporous diatomaceous earth (MDE) column, respectively. The effectiveness of the modified method was evaluated with the recoveries of three pesticides in agricultural products. The recoveries of the pesticides at two fortification levels (1.0 and 4.0 mg/kg) were satisfactory within the range of 81.8 ~ 94.8%. This modified method may resolve the problem of low recovery due to low polarity and high content of lipid.
