Dr.  Izzak Kolthoff's work motto �theory guides, experiments decide� helped evolve the field of analytical chemistry from being merely an already established procedure to quantify a substance to a science in its own right. Throughout Kolthoff's career, he encouraged his students to have a well rounded background which can be seen in his wide range of research topics that range from pH sensing to synthetic rubber production. Along with being an author on more than 900 papers and writing many textbooks, he was a social activist which included promoting scientific collaboration between countries that were destroyed during WWII.
