Our group is interested in discovering new catalytic asymmetric rearrangements, which are synthetically powerful chemical transformations for the assembly of complex molecules.  Our efforts in this area have provided new insight into the mechanisms of catalytic [2,3]- and [3,3]-rearrangements.  We are guided by the mechanistic hypothesis that reactive zwitterionic intermediates can be subjected to catalytic stereoselective rearrangements, despite their propensity to undergo facile thermal sigmatropic rearrangements.
