Life for both educators and their students is constantly in motion. The �real world� outside of the chemistry classroom can be integrated into coverage of concepts inside the classroom to great advantage, but the reverse is also true. Educators can also help students to make connections between chemistry they've already studied in the classroom to things they see in their everyday lives. Encouraging them to pause and take time to answer the question �Where do you see chemistry?� can be facilitated by highlighting chemistry that can be done using consumer chemicals found at grocery and hardware stores. The presenter will share her experience as a past editor of the high school section of the Journal of Chemical Education, including thoughts on how educators can share their work with others, and as editor of the long-running JCE Classroom Activity series, which uses consumer chemicals for hands-on, minds-on chemistry.
