We investigated the degradation products of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) during the reductive degradation RDX by lepidocrocite and iron reducing bacteria (Shewanella putrefaciens CN32 (CN32)). RDX degradation was not significant in the presence CN32 and CN32 + lepidocrocite in 58 h, while it was dramatically enhanced in both systems, CN32 + riboflavin (60%) and CN32 + lepidocrocite + riboflavin (100%), respectively. This indicated that only samples containing riboflavin were able to reduce RDX in this study. The degradation products of RDX in the systems (CN32 + riboflavin, CN32 + lepidocrocite + riboflavin) were analyzed using GC-MS, LC-MS, and IC instruments to investigate the degradation pathway of RDX by lepidocrocite and CN32 in the presence of riboflavin.
