The effect that a ligand has on the tertiary structure of a protein is often thought of as large global conformational changes, but what about subtle changes in the local tertiary structure caused by the ligand. There are over 140 solved structures of Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in various states � apo or inhibited and for various species � deposited in the Protein Data Bank. Cataloging and classifying these structures followed by an analysis of local tertiary changes to provide insight regarding the impact various inhibitors have on the global and local tertiary structure of AChE. Investigating and understanding these snapshots in time can provide a better awareness of the synergistic interaction between the inhibitor and enzyme.
