Ion organization at the air-aqueous interface was studied using interface-selective spectroscopy, conventional vibrational sum frequency generation (VSFG) and phase-sensitive VSFG (PS-SFG).  Salts of perchlorate, nitrate, sulfate, carbonate with sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium were studied to reveal the ion distributions at the air/aqueous interface. Electric fields of opposing sign were observed with concentration dependence.
