We examine the fundamental limits to the intensity of light emission from organic light emitting devices.  Such limits include include: thermal effects, triplet and singlet annihilation, exciton-polariton annihilation and injection and outcoupling.  We find that tripet fusion competes with singlet annihilation in very high brightness fluorescent OLEDs.  Control of exciton populations within the devices is there demanded to achieve both high efficiency and brightness1.  We discuss several schemes to achieve practical solutions to OLED white light generation for state of the art illumination sources.  In addition, triplet management is employed to demonstrate, for the first time, continuous wave operation of on organic semiconductor laser.  We consider the differences between single element and stacked devices in overcoming these fundamental problems.
