Metal-metal bonds are promising for multi-electron reactions to functionalize small molecule substrates. The �double decker� ligand N(o-C6H4-NHCH2PiPr2)3 allows the modular synthesis of metal-metal bonds and and investigation of their small molecule reactivity.  Two distinct types of small molecule reactivity have been investigated: (1) dinitrogen reduction with a formally Fe(1-)Al(III) complex, and (2) carbon dioxide reduction with a formally Fe(0)Cr(II) complex.
