Imidazolium salts containing a quaternary ammonium salt  were synthesized and vesicle formation in the presence of a palladium compound in water was observed. The size of the vesicles could be controlled by the chain length of 1,3-positions on the imidazolium salts. The effect of vesicle size on catalytic activity in the palladium-catalyzed oxidation of 1-heptanol in water was examined. The catalytic system can be reused at least five times with only a slight loss of catalytic activity
