A new H6L ligand has been developed, comprising two N2O3 donor sets capable of coordinating two metal centers. The homobimetallic Iron(III) and Gallium(III) complexes, [Fe2L] (1) and [Ga2L] (2) were synthesized and characterized. X-ray structure analysis revealed that the complexes are pentacoordinated with a trigonal bypiramidal structure. The cyclic voltammetry of complex 1 shows two peaks in the -1.5 to -1.7 V vs. Fc/Fc+ region suggesting that the reduction of the iron complexes occurred sequentially, and both complexes 1 and 2 show phenolate to phenoxyl redox couples in the region of 0.4 to 1.1 V vs. Fc/Fc+. The amphiphilic properties of complexes 1 and 2 revealed a collapse pressure of ~40 mN/m, but only complex 1 was transferable onto films.
