These remarks chronicle the saga of a young man, chemistry book in his combat pack, who followed General Patton in WWII  from the tailend of the Battleof the Bulge across Germany until the end of hostilities.  After returning home, he completed college, majoring in chemistry, and then spent 38.5 happy years as a separations chemist at the AEC (now DOE)Hanford site.   His Hanford journey was highlighted by acquisition of a deep and lasting appreciation of the skills and talents of his chemical engineering colleagues and, with their assistance, experiencing the thrill of having several of the separation processes he invented or worked on successfully implemented on a plant-scale.  Underpinning his entire professional career is his dedicated service to the ACS (60+ year member) and his long service to the I&EC Division in several leadership roles.
