Cross coupling reactions are frequently implemented in the construction of carbon�carbon and carbon�nitrogen bonds. Although palladium catalysis has dominated these transformations, alternative metals have been attracting considerable interest. For example, nickel catalysis has become increasingly more popular due to its low cost and high reactivity toward substrates that have otherwise been challenging using palladium catalysis. However, nickel-catalyzed cross-couplings are typically employed in environmentally unfriendly solvents or involve air sensitive pre-catalysts. This presentation will describe our recent studies toward the development of practical and green Ni-catalyzed Suzuki�Miyaura and Buchwald�Hartwig cross-couplings.
