Reducing the quantity of hazardous waste generated by undergraduate lab experiments is important.  However, ad hoc replacement of sensibly chosen reagents will not necessarily retain the pedagogical goal of the experiment if the chemistry does not �work�.  We had the goal of reducing the amount of hazardous Cr(III) generated in a quantitative analysis laboratory resulting from quantitative iodometric titration.   We present evaluation of a handful of replacement oxidants from K2Cr2O7.  We also present a two-year summary of student results where K2Cr2O7 is used and compare the student results for two years using the replacement oxidant.  In this case, the replacement oxidant appears to be a viable replacement to the environmentally-hazardous K2Cr2O7.
