General chemistry courses have multiple learning objectives.  Often one of the objectives is to help students integrate the many chemistry concepts that they learn and relate that chemistry to applications in society.  The purpose of this work is to develop a way to help students achieve this learning objective.An information-researching project was developed and added to the general chemistry course.  Students worked on the project over a semester.  They started with a familiar object, such as a can of Coca-Cola, a BMW automobile, etc., and researched the substances and chemical reactions used to make the object.  The primary result of the project for each student was a diagram or poster that graphically summarized the information that they found.  The posters were suitable for presentation at an annual undergraduate conference held on campus.  The project provided a way to help students integrate their chemistry knowledge and relate that knowledge to applications in society.
