The literature is replete with references to the synthesis, characterization and evaluation of gold nanoparticles.  We are looking at various biomolecules as reducing agents and ligands for the synthesis of stable colloidal dispersions of gold nanoparticles. Because of the nature of the ligands we expect the particles to be of interest in biomedical applications. This talk will summarize our work to date on the use of alpha-, beta- and gamma- cyclodextrins as reducing agents and ligands. Of particular interest is the observed dependence of reducing ability on cavity size.
