Polyphenolics are known to be useful as reducing agents in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. Gallic acid functions in this regard but is not effective, per se, as a ligand in producing stable colloidal nanoparticle dispersions. The polyether monoamine, SURFONAMINE L-207 has been shown by us and others to be an excellent reducing agent for the synthesis of stable gold nanoparticle dispersions. We will report on our synthesis of a gallic acid amide of the SURFONAMINE L-207 and its use in the preparation of stable colloidal dispersions of gold nanoparticles.
