Reports show that traditional lecture methods are not conducive for learning in the 21st century.  Where does that leave general chemistry?  This is a field packed with information that must be covered in a timely manner if students are to succeed and contribute to the working STEM fields.  And students can't just merely grasp concepts; they need to learn how to apply them as well.  The concept of flipped classrooms allows chemistry instructors to present the information in a creative way and open up more classroom time for students to practice applying their learning.  This presentation will discuss the highs and lows of flipping a general chemistry course at a small liberal arts college.  Methods used, difficulties with student buy in, instructor challenges, and overall impact of the method of teaching will be discussed.  Comparisons will be made between student success and the level of participation in flipped classrooms.
