Phosphinoamide ligands of the general form [ArNPiPr2] stabilize metal-metal interactions in C3-symmetric early/late heterobimetallic complexes. Systematic substitution of the N-aryl moiety on the tris(phosphinoamide) ligand framework effects the metal-metal interaction and reactivity of the reduced heterobimetallic complex (THF)Zr(ArNPiPr2)3Co-N2 The synthesis of a series of Co/Zr complexes using different N-aryl substituents will be discussed, and a comparison of these complexes will provide a better idea of the impact of ligand electronic and steric effects on metal-metal interactions.
