Cyclopropenes are valuable building blocks in synthetic chemistry. Therefore, the development of new methods for the cyclopropene synthesis is of interest to chemists. One of attractive methods is the transition metal complexes catalyzed cyclopropenation of alkynes with diazocarbenes. In spite of significant achievements in this field, highly enantioselective cyclopropenation of distributed alkyne is still challenging. Here we report mechanistic details of the Au(I)-catalyzed enantioselective cyclopropentation of internal alkynes with donor/acceptor diazocarbenes. The presented computational data allow us to elucidate the nature of active species, as well as mechanisms and factors controlling the selectivity of this reaction.
