Characterization and functionalization of silver nanoparticles with plant hormones is an innovative approach to address bioremediation strategies to reduce the impact of metal contaminations in the environment. Silver nanoparticles have been characterized as spherical nanoparticles of approximately 20 nm. Functionalization is done combining successive amounts of solutions from the nanoparticles and plant hormones like: indole-3-acetic acid, abscisic acid and (+) gibberelic acid. Radish seeds with rapid growth and high adaptability are used to determine the impact of silver nanoparticles functionalized with plant hormones on their germination rate and growth of radicles from seeds exposed to Pb and Al concentrations. The seeds were studied under greenhouse conditions. Analysis of the germination rate and elongation of radicles suggests the role of silver nanoparticles mimicking plant hormones during early plant development.
