The �12 Principles of Green Chemistry� enumerated by Anastas and Warner1 guide the practice of chemistry that is intentionally safer for human health and the environment. Some of these principles are very specific to chemistry and require significant chemical knowledge to embrace, other principles are extremely simply to describe to any audience. One of the most obvious of the simple principles is 'Prevent Waste'.Many students given little thought to the quantity of waste they produce in the laboratory. The e-factor(quotient of the mass of waste to mass of useful product2) of a process is introduced through a fun activity using candy. This lecture will provide a hands-on demonstration of our M&M e-factor activity. This activity provides a powerful opportunity for attitudinal changes about waste while teaching the student how to determine the e-factor of their methods.1. Anastas, P.; Warner, J.
