Currently, there is no method developed for the characterization and determination of hand lotions. Each hand lotion consists of both organic and aqueous components. Each lotion also has a different combination of oils which contain different triglycerides. The method has been proven to work with large sample sizes and the GC/MS can tell the difference between these fatty acids present from the triglycerides. A new technique called Solid Phase Extraction will be used. We have been able to come up with a successful method to extract the fatty acids out of the ethanol/water solution and a SPE tube that works to separate the organics and aqueous components in the hand lotions. The next step is to perform my method with the actual hand lotions to see whether eproducible results can be obtained.
