One of the chief goals of our laboratory is the interfacing of inorganic nanomaterials with biological moieties to realize functional nanosystems with enhanced capabilities for cellular labeling, imaging and sensing. To that end, we have developed a suite of peptidyl motifs and bioconjugation chemistries that mediate the controlled delivery of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and other nanoparticle materials to discrete cellular locations with fine control.  This talk will highlight several of these systems and the implications for their use in the imaging and sensing of physiological processes in living cells will be discussed.
