A central tenant of organic synthesis is the construction of carbon-carbon bonds. One of the traditional methods for carrying out such transformations is that of carbonyl allylation. The Krische group has developed methods that make use of nucleophile-electrophile pairs generated in situ via transfer hydrogenation, which allow the formation of products of carbonyl allylation from the alcohol oxidation level; streamlining the construction of complex molecules from simple, readily available starting materials. A challenge to this technology is the use of 2,2-disubstituted olefins. This problem can be addressed by employing a more reactive leaving group to promote formation of the p-allyl species leading to products of �-substituted carbonyl allylation.
