This talk will describe the singlet oxygen (1O2) -responsive conjugated materials based on conjugated polymers (CPs) in which acene pendants are covalently linked to the polymer backbone. Cycloaddition of 1O2 to the acenes yields endoperoxides, which interrupts energy transfer between the polymer backbone and the acene pendant. The resulting ratiometric photoluminescent response occurs in both CPs dissolved organic solution and in aqueous environments with presence of acene-doped CP films.  A class of novel diethylnyltetrancenes was developed and additional features, such as the reversible response to 1O2 will be discussed.
