Snake venoms are a complex mixture of proteins and peptides used for acquisition of prey and self-defense by the venomous snakes.  Venom from three snake species were analyzed using gel electrophoresis, total protein determination and specific enzyme activity assays.  Using these techniques, venom samples from different snake species were analyzed.  The results indicate major differences and some similarities in the protein profiles and relative abundance of these venom components.  The more neurotoxic snakes had higher activities of phospholipase A2 and acetylcholinesterase enzymes.
