The synthesis and coordination chemistry of a rare mixed-donor ligand featuring two pyridines and one N-heterocyclic selone, the bis(pyridyl)selone (2-py)2se, will be described in this presentation.  A series of group 12 metal complexes {(2-py)2se }MX2 (M = Zn, Cd, Hg; X = Cl, Br, I) and {(2-py)2se}2MX2 (M = Cd, X = I; M = Hg, X = Cl, Br, I), has been prepared and fully characterized and their structures illustrate the different coordination modes and versatility of this N2Se donor ligand.  In addition, a series of related complexes of copper(I), silver(I), indium(III), tin(IV), lead(II), antimony(III) and bismuth(III) have been synthesized and will be compared with the corresponding bis(pyridyl)thione analogues that we have previously isolated.
