In recent years, discrete three-dimensional (3-D) covalent organic polyhedrons (COPs) have attracted great attention due to their unique properties and wide applications. Dynamic covalent chemistry (DCvC), such as imine condensation / metathesis, boronic acid and diol condensation, is the most widely used strategy to construct COPs. However, synthesis of COPs through alkyne metathesis, an emerging dynamic covalent chemical approach, has just been explored recently. In this presentation, we will show several 3-D organic polyhedrons with different, sometimes unexpected geometries, constructed via alkyne metathesis. The host-guest binding and some biological properties of these COPs will also be discussed. This study shows the great importance of the angle strain and geometry of building blocks for efficient construction of shape-persistent 3-D organic polyhedrons.
