Pesticide residues left in applicator tanks after cleaning may result in off-target impacts. The EPA offers no federal regulations on pesticide tank cleanout procedures. The purpose of this study is to determine if current pesticide tank clean-out procedures are adequate. This was done by creating a new multiresidue method for HPLC-UV detection. This method is able to simultaneously detect and quantify eleven high-use pesticides. The final rinse of 2 of 8 applicators surveyed showed pesticide levels substantially higher than the minimum allowable concentrations.  Results from the LC-UV and an LC-MS/MS are further used to evaluate the efficacy of pesticide applicator tank clean out, and to examine potential environmental contamination.
