Plants of the genus Garcinia have revealed an array of molecules that show various bioactive traits. The present work seeks to investigate novel compounds from Garcinia binucao using SFE and TLC. SFE is underutilized in natural products research although the method provides an effective, efficient, less toxic extraction than conventional liquid-liquid extraction. In this study, wood fibers from G. binucao were extracted and collected in 8 mL volumes in 9 vials using 95% EtOH as a modifier. Currently, the fractions are being concentrated and spotted on TLC plates and examined for UV activity. The spotted TLC plates will then be stained using vanillin and Dragendorff's reagent to reveal the presence of organic compounds and alkaloids, respectively. Isolation of compounds will be completed via TLC, liquid-liquid extraction and chromatographic techniques. Purified compounds will be characterized and identified by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy.
