UR-144 N-pentanoic acid is a common metabolite of the UR-144 cannabimimetic compound present in most synthetic cannabinoid blends. Most detection protocols convert this metabolite to the UR-144 N-pentanoic acid degradant via a cyclopropyl ring opening. The preferential rearrangement of the metabolite makes the degradant metabolite a more attractive compound for narcotic and controlled substance screening agencies. Current synthesis procedures of UR-144 degradant acid involve pyrolysis of the cyclopropyl functionality and purification of the product from starting materials. The de novo synthesis of UR-144 N-pentanoic acid degradant metabolite is presented herein.
