The Claisen�Schmidt reaction applying a solvent free approach, has been used to synthesize symmetric ferrocenyl chalcones from 1,1-Diacetylferrocene in moderate to good yields and short reaction times. However, some of them were found as a mixture of ferrocenophane and the symmetric chalcone. As previously researchers report many of these ferrocenyl derivatives have many uses and applications such as biofuel cells, biosensors, optoelectronics, drug delivery systems and as topoisomerase II� inhibitors. Our research is focused in the study of the biological potential of these 1,1'-ferrocenyl chalcones. We have characterized these compounds by spectroscopic techniques (NMR, IR, UV/visible) and some of them by X-Ray crystallography. Moreover, we have conducted a study of their electrochemistry. By the study of cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the 1,1'-ferrocenyl chalcones we established a relationship between the oxidation and reduction properties, and the formal redox potencial of these derivatives in comparison with the ferrocenyl chalcones from acetylferrocene reported by our research laboratory in 2010. Synthetic methodology, characterization, and preliminary bioassays of these compounds will be elaborated.Work supported by Pfizer Pharmaceutical and MARC program.
