Transition metal complexes of oxyimine Robson macrocycles have been shown to be effective in the hydrolysis and binding of DNA. Increasing the length of bridging ligands from ethyl to propyl and butyl allows for the formation of novel Robson macrocycles. These species have a larger internal cavity increasing coordination flexibility in resulting transition metal complexes. Dihydroxylamines of vary alkanes structures 1,4-butane; 1,3-butane; and 1,3-propane were linked with 2,6-diformyl-4-methyphenol. Procedures include a Duff formylation of the initial phenol that was adapted as microwave reaction. Synthesis and characterization of all species will be discussed.
