Grignard reactions are a fundamental part of undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories. Challenging set-ups and the specialized glassware required can make the reaction difficult to initiate and produce consistent yields. In an effort to improve consistency and incorporate flexibility in the set-up, reaction conditions were tested and optimized in a variety of reaction scales, non-optimal solvent conditions, reaction times, and substrates. Through the use of sonication and disposable glassware, a single procedure was found to produce reliably high yields. This cost effective method can be incorporated in many different undergraduate laboratories.
