The 6-methylpyridine-2-carboxaldehyde substrate was used to synthesize 4 new thiosemicarbazones using thiosemicarbazide, 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, and 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide in isopropanol with a catalytic amount of H+. The yellow compounds have been given the acronyms MPYCA-TSC, MPYCA-MTSC, MPYCA-ETSC, and MPYCA-PTSC. We will present the 1H NMR spectra of these compounds, which shows the presence in solution of two different structural conformations, one of which exhibits intramolecular hydrogen-bonding. Equilibrium constants have been calculated based on the NMR data. These compounds have been synthesized in order to test them for anti-proliferative activity against various bacteria, yeast, and molds by minimum inhibition concentration studies. These new ligands have been shown to coordinate transition metals such as Pd2+ and Cu2+.
