Our research team has synthesized new compounds involving the reaction of 1-methyl-2-imidazolecarboxaldehyde (MIZCA) with several commercially available thiosemicarbazides to form the methyl-imidazolecarboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (MIZCA-TSC) compounds. The new MIZCA-MTSC and MIZCA-ETSC compounds were synthesized in the lab on a one gram scale and their structures were characterized via NMR analysis. The NMR spectra show evidence for the proposed structure for both compounds. We are now initiating anti-proliferative studies using seven different microbes with the MIZCA-ETSC and MIZCA-MTSC compounds, in order to determine the anti-microbial properties of each TSC compound synthesized.
