Itaconic acid is derived from natural sources and is finding use in industry as a renewable feedstock in the production of polymers. Ester derivatives of itaconic acid have been made in order to compare reducibility. Additionally, derivatives of itaconic acid have been subjected to 1,4 conjugate addition to further explore the chemistry of this feedstock material.
