Recently we reported mechanistic studies that show a pre-equilibrium exists on the reaction pathway for the reaction of chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (CSI) with alkenes and monofluoroalkenes to form a complex or single electron transfer (SET) intermediate.  The synthetic utility, higher product yields and generally shorter reaction times, are found when the reaction is carried out at a temperature that favors the complex/SET intermediate.
