The research here investigates the synthesis of esters from a recemic mixture of enantiomeric substituted aryl ethanols. The hydrolysis of these alcohols with lipase leads to only one enantiomer of the original alcohol, leaving the unhydrolyzed ester as a single enantiomer. A comparison of outcomes with a variety of substituted aryl pieces will be reported. The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanisms of the esterification process, and selective hydrolysis. The poster reports on methods used to form the enantiomer of each compound.   This work compares methods to resolve one ester and one alcohol from a recemic mixture. All compounds described are characterized by NMR, FTIR, IT, and optical activity.
