A new series of 7-substituted benzyloxy-3,4-dimethylcoumarins have been designed and evaluated for their ability to inhibit monoamine oxidase B (MAO B). The substituents at position 7 consisted of amino groups at the ortho, meta, and para positions of the benzyloxy ring. Activity was measured by the fluorescence monitoring of the conversion of kynuramine to 4-hydroxyquinoline. The ability of the synthesized coumarins to inhibit MAO B, based upon Ki values, will be reported.
