Modification of zeolite crystals with preserved micropores is of great interest in catalysis in order to design the zeolite with desired properties.1 Using zeolites with a hollow interior as a support allows precise control of particle size,2 potentially hinders sintering and acts as a �nanoreactor�. We show a method to prepare single crystals with a zeolite shell and hollow interior below 100 nm in a two-step process. First, the parent zeolite is synthesized with the desired crystal size. In the second step the zeolite undergoes a leaching process, thus creating the hollow core.3Figure 1 shows a representative TEM image of the leached product.Fig. 1.The material is characterized with nitrogen physisorption, IR, elemental analysis, NH3-TPD, TEM, SEM and XRD.
