The current study is aimed to resolve fundamental issues about supported Mo/ZSM-5 catalysts such as the molecular structure(s), anchoring site(s) and the active phase(s) of the catalyst during the conversion of methane to liquid aromatics. Application of systematic characterization studies with modern in situ and operando spectroscopy measurements were able to clarify the unresolved fundamental issues of this complex catalytic system.
