In current days, semiconductor photocatalysis, an ideal green Technology is highly expected to resolve Energy shortage and Environmental pollution. Compared to traditional photocatalysts, tungsten oxide (WO3) is a more ideal candidate, because of including advantages such as small band gap energy, easy preparation, nontoxicity and stability in photo oxidation process. The photocatalytic application of a conventional WO3 crystal has been greatly hindered due to the intrinsic CB minimum being lower than the redox potential required for the indispensable reduction half reaction in photocatalysis (i.e. CH4/CO2).However we found that by altering precursor, we can tune the electronic band edges.The method has been based using metal salts as sacrificial templates to prepare crystalline WO3?.By combination analysis of DRS-UV-visible and XPS VB spectra, we draw the relative band position of different types of WO3 crystal versus a normal hydrogen electrode, so it can possible to realize which photocatalyst can be used for photoreduction CO2and which one for photooxidation reaction.All these cases, suggest that the precursor can show significant role in shape controlling and perhaps it can be a simple and economical way to construct improved photocatalysts with match band potential for photoxidation and photoreduction reaction.
