Preparation of amorphous silicas prepared by the gel skeletal reinforcement using HMDS generated extremely large mesopores with pore volume larger than 5 cm3/g and pore diameter larger than 44 nm.  The mixed catalysts showed much higher conversions of n-dodecane than zeolite single even though these catalysts included only 26wt% of zeolite. Further the mixed catalysts using ASB reinforced silica showed higher conversion than the catalysts using HMDS, indicating that silicas reinforced by ASB formed silica-alumina in the external surface which played a role of additional acid sites.
