Examples of neutron scattering studies integrated with computational modeling of water, room temperature ionic liquids and redox-active sorbents in the Fluid Interface Reactions, Structures and Transport (FIRST) Energy Frontier Research Center are reviewed, including new work on the strong densification of an ionic liquid - C4mimTf2N - in mesoporous carbon micropores at low pore-loadings of the RTIL.
