Redox processes play a major role in the uranium (U) mobility under subsurface by controlling its solubility. Iron minerals, such as magnetite (Fe3O4), mackinawite (FeS), and pyrite (FeS2) are well known as effective adsorbent and reductant for aqueous U(VI). In this study, one week batch experiment was conducted to reduce of aqueous U(VI) by iron minerals at pH 7 under anaerobic condition. Inorganic and organic extractant (Na2SO4, NaHCO3/Na2CO3, and EDTA (EthyleneDiamineTetracetic Acid)) were tested to effectively extract U from reactive iron mineral surfaces. Aqueous U(VI) concentration in the extraction sample was quantified by Laser Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy (LIFS) which can selectively measure U(VI). Total U concentration in the sample was also measured by ICP-MS, therefore, we can calculate the amount of reduced U (U(IV)) on each iron mineral surface and compare them. The results can be used as useful knowledge for the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater by U.
