Quantum computation has the potential to both break the most commonly employed encryption scheme and to accurately model quantum systems. For these reasons, quantum computation is a highly active area of research with numerous qubit candidates proposed thus far. Electronic spin can behave in a quantum fashion, therefore could serve as a candidate qubit. Yet thus far, research in this area has been hampered by rapid spin decoherence. While synthetic chemists are adept at designing molecules with the ideal spin manifold, the design principles for the synthesis of molecules with long coherence time have not been established. Research demonstrating progress towards a set of synthetic design principles for new molecular candidate qubits will be presented.
