Where the formation of supramolecular architectures and materials is widely studied, control over their dynamics can often be a challenge. In most materials, static self-assembly of molecular or polymeric components at or near thermodynamic equilibrium results in materials that are very stable, but whose behavior and properties are very difficult to address. In this presentation, I will show how introduction of dynamic covalent bonds in polymerizable molecular building blocks results in the formation of self-assembling polymeric materials that respond to slight changes in their environment by complete and reversible dissociation into their molecularly dissolved building blocks.
